Patel returns to England ODI squad with less weight and better attitude

London, June 22 (ANI): Samit Patel's recall to England's one-day and Twenty20 squads after more than two years is evidence that he has made an effort to engage in the fitness and dietary requirements expected of an international cricketer.
His official weight remains a secret between him and his bathroom scales, but he is lighter than he was and able to reach level 12 on the Bleep Test (a shuttle-run fitness test), the minimum fitness requirement set by Andy Flower.
"He has put in some hard work over the winter which was good to see, but he has a long way to go," The Telegraph quoted Flower, as saying on Tuesday.
He added: "We wanted to see a willingness to work hard and improve and he has shown that, but this is not an end point for him. What he has done so far is make himself eligible for selection, but now he has been selected he needs to keep improving and, above all, produce out in the middle."
Flower further said: "He has a way to go physically, but the most important thing in all of this is how he performs on the field and Samit now has the chance to show us what he can do."
Patel shed the pounds working with a kickboxer in Brisbane during the winter. In two stints either side of Christmas, the first organised by the England and Wales Cricket Board, the second at his own initiative. (ANI)
